Today in Old Testament we read Joel aloud. His words were just what I needed to hear, made even more comprehensible by wise Dr. Ward.
“I will repay you for the years the locusts have eaten—
the great locust and the young locust,
the other locusts and the locust swarm[a]
“I will repay you for the years the locusts have eaten—
the great locust and the young locust,
the other locusts and the locust swarm[a]
my great army that I sent among you.
26 You will have plenty to eat, until you are full,
and you will praise the name of the LORD your God,
who has worked wonders for you;
never again will my people be shamed.
27 Then you will know that I am in Israel,
that I am the LORD your God,
and that there is no other;
never again will my people be shamed."
--Joel 2:25-27
The book of Joel is all about God's love on the offensive. Whatever way you look at Chapter 1 and 2, taking the locust invasion literally or comparing it to the metaphor of an army, the theme in the end is the coming of the Lord's day.
Dr. Ward summed it up: No matter what you have done in your past, God will give it back to you. Lost relationships? God will repay you for the years the locusts have eaten. He will reward the battle and that reward is the beautiful coming of Christ!
